writing a function that calls a web user control in .cs file

I'm trying to write a function in a .cs file that when called by the index.aspx page it loads the corresponding user control. public static void loadUserControl() { Control controlHeader = null; Control controlNavigationMain = null; Control controlNavigationSub = null; Control controlCategory = null; String strControlDir= "user_controls/"; controlHeader = LoadControl(strControlDir + "header_home.ascx"); controlNavigationMain = LoadControl(strControlDir + "navigation_home_main.ascx"); controlNavigationSub = LoadControl(strControlDir + "navigation_home_sub.ascx"); controlCategory = LoadControl(strControlDir + "home_history.ascx"); // loads controls headerPlaceholder.Controls.Add(controlHeader); navigationMainPlaceholder.Controls.Add(controlNavigationMain); navigationSubPlaceholder.Controls.Add(controlNavigationSub); categoryPlaceholder.Controls.Add(controlCategory); } I'm not proficient at all with asp.net, so please ellaborate. There are two types of controls 1 - User controls 2 - Custom Controls User controls are those with a .ascx extension Custom controls are components which are created using Web Control Library project in VS.NET. They are reusable components and can be added as reference to the project. Say you have created a custom control named MyApplication.HeaderControl You can load the control in two ways in the .aspx page or in the Page_Load event MyApplication.HeaderControl myControl = new MyApplication.HeaderControl(); this.Controls.Add(myControl); Say you have created a user control named FooterControl.ascx You can call them in the Page_Load event by the following method this.LoadConttrol() -which will create the control and return the instance.
