What would be best way: To write an update program?

Hello:
 
I need to write an update program and was wondering if anyone can give me some advice.
 
I will be looping through some records and would like to show a progress bar and/or counters...like records completed, errors, updated, not updated.
 
Should I do this in a regular Windows form or is there a better way?
