threading

i am using vb.net for the GUI and for the processing i am using matlab when i call matlab through vb.net it wont allow me to do anything else till it shows the output.So i want to run the matlab in the backend so that it wont effect the GUI of vb.net means i can do some other processing at that time.how to run it at the backend.
