Why does the following error occur? The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a receive. at System.Web.Services.Protocols.WebClientProtocol.GetWebResponse(WebRequest request) at System.Web.Services.Protocols.HttpWebClientProtocol.GetWebResponse(WebRequest request) I'm using web services from ASP.NET application, and I use two different services. It's strange, because other methods from this service work well, but whenever I call one given method, it gives this error.

The problem is that I've not authored the services (and don't have access to source code). But you are sure that it is just a coding error in the service and nothing mysterious having to do with framework's web service implementation? If that's true then maybe somebody can fix the services. Thanks.

Well I normally debug my web services locally and can trap any errors that way. I'm sure you could debug remotely or you could throw in a try/catch and write the error out to the event log or a text file. -James

Does it give this error message if service throws whatever exception? I think I've got the real error messages from web service when there haev been a problem. I don't think it's security problem because it's only one method on that service ( and now I found another problematic method in another service). All the web services are just entry methods for business logic (Serviced Components).

something in the web service threw an unhandled exception most likely due to a security issue... the aspnet_wp worker process does not inherit the rights from IIS (like you would think) you have to specify a user in the machine.config file on the web server.
