StreamReader

Question

Is there any way to go back to the top of a file when reading in from a file...or is the only to close the current object create a new one and open the file again?

Found this thread looking for the same thing. The answer is YES you can. The StreamReader object is foward only but the underlying stream is not. Example: FileStream fs = new FileStream (myfile FileMode.Open); StreamReader sr = new StreamReader (fs); while (!sr.EndOfStream) string line = sr.ReadLine(); // Now at end of stream. Go back. fs.Seek(0 SeekOrigin .Begin); while (!sr.EndOfStream) string line sr.ReadLine(); // Have read the file twice. sr.Close(); fs.Close(); Thanks everyone for the help.

I think this should work. oFileStream.Seek(0 System.IO.SeekOriginal.Begin) Craig

StreamReader is forward-only so unfortunately you have to close and reopen. -James
