SharePoint list is not showing updated values after ItemAdded and ItemUpdated event

Question

Hi all,
I have a situation in which I have a list and I need to insert some pre defined values in the list field on add, and edit. so I wrote an event handlers ItemAdded, and ItemUpdated and set the values to the fields.
now I am having problem that when ever I add new record or edit existing record list does not show updated values (values which I set using event handler). When I refresh the page it starts showing values, means I need to refresh the page after add or edit record.
My question is that is it normal behaviour? if it is or if it is not how can I show updated values with out refreshing the page?
