Practice,practice,practice..Practice what?

Question

I have learned syntactical basics but for some reason, have been blanking on ideas to practice design and development techniques. I’m sure there are those out there who have stood at the edge of the chasm between ‘knowing a little bit’ and ‘knowing enough to get hired somewhere’, would some of you please share your suggestions with me?
