pixel matrix and neural network

I'm trying to find out about face recognition system using Neural Network (back propagation), and the first thing is to preprocess image to improve the image quanlity and feed into the network. This is just the concept any one has researched about this topic can help me ???

maybe it's helpfull to research the general use of neural networks first. It's a complex network of nodes that should represent some kind of digital brain ^_^. It's all depending on firing nodes wich has relationships with other nodes to find a solutions. That's all I know.
