I am a New leaner of .NET need guidance

Question

 Hai all I am a new .net student.I am studing dotnet with csharp through some e-books.Through that I learned the basic concepts of csharp but I want to learn some real time application.for that I want to know what kind of dotnet version I can install so that I can learn some applications effectively.And I also want some guidence such that how can I measure my steps properly to become a good developer.
