gripe with data binding

my question is when is data binding practically useful since a) any experienced database programmer would be very comfortable scripting update / add statements fairly easily b) microsofts official word on data binding and datasets suggests that it is useful mainly for disconneted datbase operations. please refer http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnbda/html/BOAGag.asp c)its extermely slow !! d)visual studio is not very good at complicated db operations and it seems like a major struggle with the IDE to set it up in the first place so is this only useful for novice progammers who cannot be expected to do under thehoo SQL querying ? excuse if this question as been long settled. i have just discovered .net, more out of neccesity than choice ! cheers
