Form navigation?

Question

Hey all what im trying to do is have a button that when clicked brings up a new form for the using to enter information on it. I did this with the following code. this.Visible=false; frmNewProject newProject = new frmNewProject(); newProject.Show(); What i need to know is how do i go back to my Main form now without creating a new instance of it. When i do frmMain. i can only access a few of its properties like active form i cant use the enabled or visible properties or use the show meathod. Thx in advance, Ryan.

HI friends......... i think that i have better solution for your problem than the Form.ShowDialog() one.... try the following.... let's consider from1 which we want to hide and from2 which should be appear after hidding from1 then you need to have a pointer to the form1 if you want to show it again - whithout making a new instance from it - from form2 that pointer must be passed to form2 when you use the show() or showDialog() methods ... like this --> Form form2 = new frmForm(); form2.ShowDialog(this); then after showing the form2 you can deal with this pointer through owner property like this: consider that on click of a button in the form2 you want to show the parent form so you should type: Owner.Show(); that's it ..... another thing ... be carefull friend when you use the Hide property of a form that you don't forget that form in the background I mean in the memory .... because this may lead you to memory overflow error ... so try to close or dispose your forms after you finish your work.... I hope that this may help u ..... Feras

It's a bit fuzzy what you're saying but if I get it right the problem would be: you have a main form which at a certain moment becomes invisble (this.Visible=false) and makes room for another secondary form. And you don't know how to return to the main form. If so creating a new instance of the main form would have absolutely no logic. You just have to set the Visible property of the form back to true. Now you could solve your problem several ways: -handle the appearance and disappearance of your form by: -checking the return value of the second form as a DialogResult from the main form or by -writing in the main form an event handler for the Closing event of the 2nd form; so you wouldn't have to wait for the 2nd form to close but you can do something else meanwhile -allow the main form to remain visible but display the second from modally (Form2.ShowDialog()); this way the user won't be able to interact with the first form until the second one closes. Hope I didn't wrote that in chinese :)

If you want the original form to be invisible while the new form is up then you can do something like this: this.Visible = false; frmNewProject newProject = new frmNewProject(); newProject.ShowDialog(); // Note: I have used ShowDialog as this allows you to return a DialogResult which lets you indicate whether your actions on the new form have been successful or not. Also this.Visible = true; Using ShowDialog displays the second form as a modal dialog and control returns to the orginal form after the new dialog has been closed. Once the control has returned to the original dialog you can set its Visible property to true.

is there any way to do this or do i have to get the input from the user with an input box of sometime.. that would be a major pain. Ryan
