File transfer problems

Question

My problem is this. I want to download a file from the webbserver and save it to a local client. And i the work flow is like this. After the user has register his customer data, he reicive an email with a link to the file on the server and then the dowload starts. I don´t have any idea of how to do this :-( Could anyone give me some idea´s or example of how to do this or some other way to do this Sorry for my poor english

I would recommend a different means of notification than email. For email the user must manually extract the link text from their email client and paste it into your application and click a button to start the download or your program has to be configured to talk to a mail client with a unique user account for that user. Both are a hassle. Why not use a web application that sends a document of Content-Type text/plain with the URL in it when the download is ready and PLEASE WAIT before that? The client application could easily check the web URL every 10 seconds or so. I pretty much ripped this code right off the the Visual Studio help example.
