Dynamic two dimensional array

Question

I am trying to create a two dimenional(dynamic array). I know we can create dynamic arrays in c# using arraylist class. but I am not sure if we can create two dimensional dymanic array using array list. Any inputs are appreciated. Thanks.

That is still possible with the ArrayList of ArrayLists. Try this: a = (ArrayList)ar[i]; a.Add(myValue); Also you don't necessarily have to know dimension2. ArrayLists were made so that you didn't have to know that dimension.

Thanks for the reply. Your example assumes knowing arraydimension2 which I don't know. Moreever in line (ArrayList)ar[i]).Add(myValue); ar[i].add dosen't popup. Here is my situation. I need to store following information No path 1 c:	emp1 c:	emp2 2 c:	emp3\ll.txt c:	emp3\pp.txt c:	emp4\pp1.txt so basically I need to store those path strings for each No The number of paths for each number is not known until runtime. I use Directory.getfiles(pathpattern) to retrive paths of the files matching the pattern. the function outputs the file names into an array. so I run direcotry.getfiles this for each No. Thanks

I think you just need to create an arraylist of arraylists e.g. ArrayList ar = new ArrayList() for (i = 0; i < arrayDimensions; i++) { ar.Add(new ArrayList()); for (j = 0; j< arrayDimensions2; j++) { ( (ArrayList)ar[i]).Add(myValue); } } ((ArrayList)ar[0])[7] = o; -Mike
