Display Progress bar

i want a help from u

i have form on that form i am showing a progress bar, that was a round gif image .when i click on the button the gif image visible and the result get from database the image will be hide i am doing this thing but if the database connection was failed the form is hang and my image is not working. but still i want to run that image. do u have any solution for that
