Detect Blank MS Word Document

Question

Is there a way of detecting if there is Text in a word document ? We have a form which allows the User to edit a MS Word document. The User can then click on a button on the form which saves the document back to a database, we don't want to allow the save if the document is blank. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks John

I know that you can do something like this with Word VBA: Function CountChars(oDoc As Document) As Integer CountChars = oDoc.Characters.Count End Function And call it like: someinteger = CountChars(ActiveDocument) The only problem is that this will return 1 for a blank document but I would imagine that if you got back a 1 you would automatically assume that it's a blank (or worthless) document. Having said that I don't see any reason that you would be unable to code this in .NET as long as you have a reference to the document in question. I'm interested to see if anyone else knows of a better way!
