Automation Word to perform client-side Mailmerge from server

Hello everyone,

I am at the deadend of my process here and desparatedly need help: I am trying to build a component (or service) to open word and perform mailmerge on the client machine from a server-side application.  As I know, there are two possible options: ActiveX-like control and Web service.

If anyone has done this, please let me know. Your help is so appreciated.
