App.ico

Question

Does anyone know why if I change the App.ico ( or any .ico ) I can never get it to display? I went and altered the App.ico file, but when I run, I get the original. If I open App.ico in the environment, I get the one I drew. I even tried making App.ico an embedded resource and added this line to the constructor of my form ( After InitializeComponent ) this.Icon = new Icon( this.GetType(), "App.ico" ); I also tried setting the Icon property of the form in the designer. This time the application displayed properly in the property grid, but when I ran the application, it was the old icon again.

I found this weirdness too. I now keep my app icon in the Bin folder with the exe then in project properties assign the icon to the exe. You'll notice vs will copy the ico and put it in the main project folder (one level up from bin) but don't ever alter that ico with an editor or anything always mess with the bin version. This will preserve the changes thru the project straight thru to deployment. Hope this helps.

FYI this is done through project properites change Application Icon and point it back to the new modified file.

change app.ico then reasign the application to the file again.
