Accessing database

Question

Hello I am trying to create a new project using Database Project template. When I open the project I got pop up window that lets you choose Provider and specify Connection Information. Under Provider is there way to add another provider if my database provider is not listed? I need to connect to school database on unix server and the database type is oracle. The server does not allow remote computers to connect the database directly so I need to connect to the server using SSH and do tunneling. I know the port number to use. Is there anyone who has done similar task or knows how to do it? Thank you for reading this. KH

Wait a minute... my Visual Studio has an Oracle .NET native provider. I have the Architect version though. Which edition do you have? All I have to do is drop an OraConnection object on the form or create an OracleConnection object. Now that I look at it if you're looking for the provider in the list you may be setting up a new OLEDB connection.

Are you using Visual Studio? Borland has an Oracle driver in C#Builder. I'm sure you can add one to most IDEs if you install a driver. You can find ADO.NET providers for most databases. Some are commercial.
